Empowering Tomorrow’s Sustainability Leaders: Green Champions Induction Day
22 July 2025
In July 2025, we held our Green Champion Programme Induction Day at Canopy by Hilton. Now in its third year, the programme continues to grow – this time with exciting new roles, sharper goals, and even stronger alignment with the 4C Group’s score values as a responsible business.

At 4C Group, we believe running a responsible business means making a meaningful impact – not just on the environment, but on our people and communities too. That belief is at the heart of the Green Champion Programme.

What the Programme Is About
The Green Champion Programme isn’t just about being “green” – it’s about doing better business. We empower team members to spot issues, propose solutions, and lead practical improvements across our hotels. It’s a grassroots approach that flips the traditional top-down model on its head, fostering autonomy, creativity, and accountability.
The work touches all areas of ESG:
- Environmental (E): Reducing food waste, improving recycling, and cutting energy use.
- Social (S): Investing in our people’s development – building soft and hard skills like leadership, analysis, and collaboration.
- Governance (G): Embedding responsible business into daily operations, led by the people who know our hotels best.

Our Evolved Structure
This year, we’ve introduced three new roles to build on the strength of our existing Green Champions:
- Green Champions lead efforts at the hotel level, spotting opportunities and taking ownership of improvements.
- Green Champion Leads support their peers, help set priorities, and keep momentum going.
- Green Champion Specialists offer targeted expertise in areas such as energy and food waste, sharing knowledge across the group.
This internal ecosystem of support helps our teams build confidence, work across departments, and take real ownership of the sustainability journey.

Our Goals for 2025–2026
We’ve set clear, actionable goals that make both environmental and business sense:
- Standardised Green Training & SOPs across all hotels, to ensure consistency
- Cutting food waste through ideas like “No Bin Days” and repurposing ingredients in team canteens
- Lower energy use, including real-time tracking and team-led savings
- Improve recycling, both on-site and with external providers
- Go paperless, replacing printed forms and checklists with digital tools
How Guests Fit In
We don’t just want to work behind the scenes. We want our guests to be part of the solution too—whether it’s by reusing towels, using public transport, or learning about how our hotels are reducing waste.
Done well, this helps build trust, brand value, and a sense of shared purpose between our teams and guests.
Why This Sets 4C Group Apart
What makes the Green Champion Programme unique is its action-driven and people-first approach. It isn’t about perfection—it’s about progress, collaboration, and asking better questions:
What can we do better? Who can we bring along with us?
Through this program, we’re empowering our team, enhancing business performance, and fostering a culture where sustainability and responsibility are common co-priorities.
