Jamestown Road proposals submitted by Regal and 4C Group for PBSA Project

15 November 2024

Following the successful completion of the first collaboration The Haydon this year, 4C Group and the Regal London have once again teamed up to deliver thoughtful design and biodiverse green spaces in Camden Town, London. They have submitted proposals for 187 student bedrooms, 27 affordable homes, and flexible commercial at 33-35 Jamestown Road and 211 Arlington Road in Camden Town.

Designed by Morris+Company, the project takes inspiration from Camden’s architectural heritage, wrapping around the historic 19th-century pub at 31 Jamestown Road. The design integrates seamlessly with the area while introducing modern, active frontages that revitalize the streetscape.

The Purpose Built Student Accommodation (PBSA) prioritises resident well-being, offering a variety of study, social, and relaxation spaces. At the heart of the development is a woodland-inspired courtyard with dense planting and intimate gathering spaces, creating a peaceful retreat for both residents and those using the commercial areas.

The proposals also include 27 affordable homes, comprising dual- and triple-aspect units, which account for 35% of the total habitable rooms. These homes are a mix of social rent and intermediate tenures, including three maisonettes. Designed to foster community and connection, the homes feature private outdoor spaces and access to a shared biodiverse garden. The south-facing garden includes natural play areas, diverse planting, and timber elements, offering a tranquil green space within the development.

In addition, the development includes nearly 3,500 square feet of flexible commercial space with a welcoming, publicly accessible frontage. These commercial units aim to attract local businesses, injecting vitality into the neighbourhood and supporting economic activity. The commercial space also overlooks the central courtyard, fostering a harmonious blend of urban life and nature.

This project also addresses the growing demand for purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) in Camden, which ranks as London’s fourth-largest borough for student residents. The PBSA will offer students a range of amenities tailored to their needs, including study areas and secure, fully managed living spaces.

The space is in the heart of buzzing Camden Town, nearby 4C Group’s first flagship hotel, Holiday Inn London – Camden Lock, all within walking distance of Camden’s landmarks such as Camden Lock Market and Regent’s Park.
